Before completing his formal education, David Baker was a union carpenter. From 1977 until 1982 he was a principal of Sol-Arc,a firm focused on the integration of architectural design with solar and energy conservation issues. A member of the American Institute of Architects, in 1996 he was Selected as a fellow of the AIA.
